Paul Robinson has poured cold water on the idea of Tottenham signing Jesse Lingard this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one questioned where the 29-year-old would fit into Antonio Conte's system.

Lingard is available on a free transfer after his contract at Man United expired.

Man United

According to Football.London's Alasdair Gold (10 June), Spurs have held talks with the attacking midfielder's representatives over a potential move.

There is expected to be stiff competition for Lingard's signature, with West Ham interested in re-signing their former loan star.

When asked by Football Insider if Lingard would be a welcome addition in north London, Robinson issued a three-word verdict: "Not for me.

"Where does he fit in?

"If a deal for Richarlison comes into fruition Spurs are well stocked in forward areas. They already have Son [Heung-min], Lucas Moura, [Dejan] Kulusevski and Harry Kane.

"Lingard is not a holding midfielder so he would be coming into the squad as one of the wide forwards. Lingard is not going to play wing-back either. I struggle to see where he is going to fit into that system.

Tottenham

"He doesn't play ahead of Son and he doesn't play ahead of Kulusevski. If you put Richarlison into that mix... We know [Steven] Bergwijn is probably going to be on his way but even then I can't see where Lingard fits in.

"He just doesn't fit the system Conte plays."
