"The writing is on the wall" for Hugo Lloris as he edges closer to a Tottenham exit.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs defender Alan Hutton said the club signed Guglielmo Vicario to be number one moving forward meaning Fraser Forester will continue to be second choice.

Lloris did not travel with the Lilywhites on their Asia-Pacific pre-season tour and manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed that the Frenchman is looking for a move elsewhere.

The 36-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and has previously made clear his desire for a new challenge.

Last month (27 June), Spurs confirmed the signing of Vicario from Empoli on a five-year deal.

When asked if the 26-year-old has joined as Tottenham's number one moving forward, Hutton told Football Insider: "I think so.

"Forster took over from Lloris when he was not playing and I think he is a decent enough goalkeeper, a very good number two probably so I think Vicario is coming in to be number one that is why they paid decent money for him.

"We all knew Lloris was going to consider his options and move elsewhere, I think Ange would have known that before he even stepped into the job.

"When a player does not travel the writing is on the wall for them. He has been a great servant for the club but they have to keep moving forward."
