Richarlison has the right character to become a prolific goalscorer for Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs and Scotland defender Alan Hutton was not surprised that the £54million forward wants to stay and fight for his place.

The 26-year-old has been sidelined since earlier this month with a groin injury after scoring just twice in all competitions for Spurs this season.

Despite his struggles with form, Hutton has hailed the Brazilian's determination.

"Tottenham paid a lot of money for him," he told Football Insider.

"They will want to get something out of him. It's not ideal at this moment in time in terms of goals, but he works extremely hard for his team.

"We see that every time he plays. He's trying to get in the right positions and he's trying to score goals so that's good.

"This is the main opportunity for him. When Harry Kane left, I thought Richarlison was going to be that main go-to guy at number nine, but it's not quite worked out.

"He's got a good character for me as he wants to give everything for that football club.

"It doesn't surprise me that he wants to stay and fight for it. I like that within footballers - don't give up!

"You want to continue to work your way into the team and I think he will continue to do that."
