Tottenham expert thrilled by Dane Scarlett after footage emerges

Tottenham youngster Dane Scarlett has had a “really, really impressive” start to life at Portsmouth.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Scarlett, 18, scored his first ever senior goal in Portsmouth’s 1-0 away win at Port Vale on 27 August.

He followed that up with a second goal in the EFL Trophy on 30 August as Pompey lost to Crawley on penalties.

Wenham could not be more pleased for Scarlett and is expecting more goals over the coming weeks.

“It wasn’t just his first goal, it was an important goal,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He got the only goal in a 1-0 away win having started the game. The comments from the Cowley brothers say to me that they expect him to build on that first goal and go on a little bit of a run.

“I’m really pleased for Dane. I have seen videos, the Portsmouth matchday-going support love him, they have loved him from day one.

“That will be because he doesn’t stop running, he presses high, he has pace, commitment.

“I can now see him starting plenty of games for Portsmouth and this is a club at the top end of League One.

“It has been really, really impressive from a lad who has just turned 18. I’m really pleased.”

On 25 May, Tottenham announced Scarlett, 18, had signed a new long-term deal.

The forward made seven first-team appearances for Spurs during the recently completed season, most recently as a second-half substitute in the 4-0 win over Leeds United on 26 February.
