Tottenham are eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Matthias Ginter, according to a report.
The Independent claim that Spurs are “keen” on signing the 23-year-old centre-back this summer as manager Mauricio Pochettino prepares to reshuffle his backline.
It is understood Spurs are looking at defensive options as Kyle Walker is set to leave, while Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld have uncertain futures.
The report details that Dortmund ace Ginter would be available for around £15million and is open to an exit.
However, the north London club would face competition from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim for his signature and recently appointed Dortmund manager Peter Bosz plans to hold talks with the player about his future.
Ginter is a 10-time capped Germany International and won the World Cup in 2014.
The versatile defender, who can be used at right-back, centre-back and as a defensive midfielder, has been with Dortmund since 2014.
He made 42 appearances across all competitions last season, including eight during his side’s run to the Champions League quarter-finals.
Ginter is yet to experience domestic football outside of his homeland, but Premier League runners-up Spurs are hoping he joins their defence.
Football Insider verdict:
It would take a very strong signing to help improve Spurs’ defence and Dortmund ace Ginter could be one of few who could help improve their options. His versatility makes him an ideal candidate for Pochettino as he could fill into several positions in his 3-4-3 formation. Additionally, the £15million figure seems like a steal for a player that at 23 only has the potential to improve. Ginter is right in the mix for the highly competitive Germany squad and could add some steel to the Spurs defence. His experience in the Champions League is another major positive and he seems like he could also cope well with the Premier League.
