Tottenham are facing a huge transfer spend if they are to sign a forward after their move for Eberechi Eze was hijacked.

Spurs had agreed a deal for Eze, and after missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest, Thomas Frank is still seeking a replacement for the injured James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.

Frank is exploring the market and is keen to get a deal over the line before the transfer window shuts.

Villa place price tag on Rogers

Spurs have now turned their attention to Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers, who according to the Independent [22 August], is a "priority target."

The club were prepared to spend around £60million on Eze or Gibbs-White, but a deal for Rogers could prove more substantial.

The 23-year-old has a contract until 2030 and could cost over £80m, with the Independent stating "it might have to go even higher to make Villa think."

Villa have struggled in this transfer window due to PSR concerns, and may be willing to sell Rogers at the right price to improve their financial position.

Football Insider Verdict

Losing out on Eze late in the window leaves little time for an alternative to be signed, which leaves Frank with a creative void in his squad.

Maddison and Kulusevski have been Spurs' main protagonists in creating chances and adding goals from midfield.

With Champions League football, Frank needs depth to be able to his options for the number 10 position to be able to compete on both fronts.

Pape Sarr started in the role against Burnley, but that is not the 22-year-old's natural position.

Therefore, a late purchase is necessary though Spurs face spending over a player's true valuation so late in the window.

Rogers is a young and exciting talent, who has Champions League experience and has become a star at Villa Park.

The midfielder would be perfect for Spurs, but Villa look like they will drive a high price before agreeing to any deal.
