Tottenham are preparing to make a deadline day swoop for Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez – and the club’s supporters are hoping for the deal to go ahead.

The Sun claim that the 27-year-old is holding talks with the Saints about his future and that Spurs are eyeing a late move for him.

It is understood that manager Mauricio Pochettino is a big admirer of Rodriguez after working with him at St Mary’s stadium.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is well recognised for late deals in the transfer window, with Moussa Sissoko joining for £30million in the summer in the closing stages of the summer market.

Spurs supporters feel that Rodriguez would be a good addition to their squad and his connection with Pochettino would be a good thing.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Rodriguez has managed to stay clear of injuries this season and be an important member of the first-team.

However, he faces tough competition for a starting place from Shane Long, Charlie Austin and imminent new arrival Manolo Gabbiadini.

The forward has one cap for England’s senior national side and has proved he can score goals in the top-flight, netting 25 times in 94 appearances in the Premier League.

Pochettino may be keen to add to his attacking options, with Harry Kane, Vincent Janssen and Heung-Min Son his only senior choices.

In other Tottenham transfer news, the club are preparing talks for an 18-year-old attacker.
