Tottenham fans demand this fringe player starts v Gillingham
By Dominic Toner
Tottenham fans have said on Twitter that Kevin Wimmer deserves a place in the side that faces Gillingham on Wednesday night.
Spurs host the League One side in the EFL Cup third-round and Mauricio Pochettino may be tempted to rest some key players, with trips to Middlesbrough and CSKA Moscow coming up.
Argentinian boss Pochettino is yet to include Wimmer in any of his squads this season and has elected to name youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers instead.
Wimmer, 23, has seemingly fallen down the pecking order at White Hart Lane and the centre-back will be hopeful of a chance against Gillingham.
Pochettino told the Evening Standard that the decision to have Carter-Vickers over Wimmer is only based on footballing ability.

“Kevin arrived late on the pre-season, was injured remember, he didn’t play in Australia, and Cameron did very well,” he said. “You can watch the games, and if he deserves to be on the bench, then why not? Because he is young? It’s about performance.”
The Spurs fans have took to Twitter to claim that Wimmer should be given the opportunity to impress on Wednesday and made jokes about his absence.

Wimmer enjoyed a successful first season at the club last year, making 21 appearances in all competitions, and impressed when he replaced regulars Toby Alderweirled or Jan Vertonghen in the side.
The Austrian international suffered a hamstring injury at the beginning of the season but has not been considered since his return to full fitness.
With Spurs’ squad likely to be stretched this season, due to both European and domestic fixtures, Wimmer will hope to impress if he is given the opportunity.
