'Mad props', 'Left, right and centre' - Tottenham fans rave over under-fire star in win v Newcastle

Tottenham fans took to social media to rave over the performance of goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris during the club’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Wednesday night.

Spurs went into the game knowing that by bettering Chelsea’s result they would almost certainly secure Champions League qualification for next season, and with the Blues being held to a 1-1 draw by Huddersfield, the three points ensured that Mauricio Pochettino and his men would be among Europe’s elite once again.

It was Harry Kane’s second half strike which secured victory for the Lilywhites at Wembley in a game in which Tottenham struggled to create chances and left Newcastle opportunities of their own to net, Jonjo Shelvey hitting a free kick onto the post as an early warning.

However, the Magpies were denied by a resolute defence, which was marshalled and commanded by the man between the sticks, Lloris pulling off some impressive saves to keep the visitors at bay.

The Frenchman has been under-fire from fans this season as a result of some costly errors in games but he led by example against Newcastle, and the supporters took to Twitter to demonstrate their appreciation for his crucial contribution to the win, with a couple pointing to those who had been criticising his displays.
