'Please stay' - Tottenham fans react to Janssen WHL finale Twitter message

By Harry Sykes

Vincent Janssen posted an image of himself on the White Hart Lane pitch after the final game at the stadium – and Tottenham fans took to Twitter to share their faith that he will make a big impact next season.

The Dutch striker has had a hugely disappointing debut Premier League campaign after his £18million transfer from AZ Alkmaar last summer.

But Janssen has publicly insisted he has no plans to throw in the towel and promised he will learn from this season and come back with a bang after the summer.

The 22-year-old took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to post an image in which he is pictured alongside Spurs teammate Ben Davies in the aftermath of Sunday’s finale 2-1 win against Manchester United before the bulldozers moved in at the historic venue.

Jansson was an unused substitute as Tottenham secured the win that guarantees them second in this season’s league behind newly-crowned champions Chelsea.

Despite his poor scoring record since moving from Holland, Spurs fans are keen for him to make a mark at the club and claimed they look forward to seeing him scoring goals next season.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Janssen has scored just six goals from 36 Spurs appearances this season, with four of those coming from the penalty spot and only two in open play.

His record of two goals from 25 league matches does not bear close scrutiny, although only seven of those games were as a starter.

In other Tottenham transfer news, the club have sensationally terminated the contract of one of their defenders.
