Red alert: Sakho is struggling with knee problems

By Harvey Byrne

Tottenham fans have aired their disgust on Twitter after a report claimed that the club had made an enquiry for Liverpool centre-back Mamadou Sakho.

Independent fan site Vital Spurs claimed on Thursday that the north London outfit had made a “tentative enquiry” for the Reds’ 27-year-old.

The report follows on from a claim from the London Evening Standard last week, which detailed that the Merseyside giants wanted as much as £30million for their player.

Understandably, Tottenham fans were not too happy with this link due to Sakho himself being relegated to the Liverpool Under-23s following a falling out with boss Jurgen Klopp last summer.

The Frenchman has not featured for the Merseysiders since April 2016 and his only taste of senior football came during his loan spell with Crystal Palace in the last campaign where he played eight times in total.

Now, Tottenham supporters have expressed their hopes on social media that the Vital Spurs report is untrue with many keen to see the club steer clear of players such as Sakho.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The centre-back area is already incredibly strong at Tottenham with two of the Premier League’s best defenders in their ranks with Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderwerweireld.

Additionally, the club’s support is keen to see Pochettino’s side improve on the signings they made last summer, which included flops Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen and many view Sakho’s name alongside the ex-Newcastle attacker’s, especially given the similarity in price.

In other Tottenham new, Spurs have made an emphatic decision on this 22-year-old Spanish national.
