Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Dier display v Watford

By Matt Farr

Eric Dier gave a commanding midfield display for Tottenham in the thumping 4-0 victory over Watford on Saturday – and fans on Twitter were thrilled with his display.

The 23-year-old was restored to his natural central midfield role in the continued absence of the injured Victor Wanyama and thrived.

He ensured Tottenham enjoyed the majority of possession, and snuffed out a number of Watford chances on the break, as well as capping off his performance with a goal.

Tottenham fans were delighted with his influential performance, and took to Twitter to deliver their verdicts.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Dier has seen his influence in the engine room limited of late, with Mauricio Pochettino deploying the England international as part of a back-three in recent weeks.

However, his display against Watford will give Pochettino further reasoning to consider Dier as a long-term asset for his side in midfield.

The victory for Tottenham moves them to within just four points of Premier League leaders Chelsea, who are in action against Bournemouth on Saturday evening.

Closing the gap on the leaders looked almost a certainty the minute Dele Alli opened the scoring for Tottenham in the 33rd-minute.

Dier then doubled the lead just six minutes later, before a brace from Son Heung-Min either side of the break capped off a ruthless display from the home side.
