Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Edwards display for Under-23s

By Harry Sykes

Marcus Edwards played the full 90 minutes for Tottenham Under-23s in their 4-0 demolition of Reading on Monday night – and fans took to Twitter to hail the teenage playmaker.

Edwards, 18, did not get on the scoresheet himself but his corner set up the match-sealing fourth goal for fellow attacker Shilow Tracey.

Ryan Loft, Josh Onomah, Jaden Brown and Shilow Tracey secured a convincing win for Spurs at Stevenage and lifted them to sixth in them Premier League 2 table.

The match enabled Edwards to get some minutes under his belt in a what has been a stop-start season ruined by a three-month ankle injury.

Supporters took to social media to give their verdicts on Edwards, with some claiming he should be given some first-team action by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Edwards has been hailed as a future star by Pochettino, who even compared him to Lionel Messi earlier in the season.

The left-footed attacking midfielder has made only one first-team appearance to date, a cameo as a second-half substitute in the 5-0 EFL Cup thrashing of League One side Gillingham in September.

Edwards has made eight Premier League 2 appearances this season, scoring four goals and supplying two assists.

Tottenham will next face Southampton in the Premier League at White Hart Lane on Sunday as they look to maintain the pressure on runaway leaders Chelsea.
