Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Wimmer display against Aston Villa
By Harry Sykes
Kevin Wimmer played the full 90 minutes of Tottenham’s FA Cup win over Aston Villa on Sunday – and fans gave mixed verdicts his performance on Twitter.
The Austria international was named in the Spurs starting XI for the second time in three matches as Mauricio Pochettino opted for a 3-4-3 formation for the third consecutive match.
It paid dividends, although Spurs took took 71 minutes to break the deadlock at White Hart Lane before eventually sealing a convincing win through goals from Ben Davies and Son Heung-Min.
Wimmer lined up at the back alongside teenager Cameron Carter-Vickers and first-team mainstay Toby Alderweireld, who was one of only two players who were retained in the team from the XI that beat Chelsea 2-0 in midweek.
Spurs kept a clean sheet against the Championship side but supporters were not entirely convinced by the display of former Koln centre-back Wimmer.

One said he lacked the composure on the ball of first-teamer Jan Vertonghen, while others doubted whether he will be at White Hart Lane for much longer.

You know, if it was decided to sell one Spurs defender, I might dump Wimmer first and use Davies more as a CB.

What is clear is Carter Vickers and Wimmer aren’t as confident/good on the ball as Dier and Jan.

Spurs look clunky out there. Take off either CCV or Wimmer & bring on Onomah, need another creative passer. Winks or nothing, currently

Wimmer joined Tottenham from Bundesliga outfit Koln in the summer of 2015 and made a good impression as the back up to established pair Alderweireld and Vertonghen last season.
But he has slipped down the pecking order this season and made just seven appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
In other Tottenham news, the club are close to sealing an attacking midfielder transfer.
