Mauricio Pochettino did everything but wave Toby Alderweireld goodbye in his press conference on Friday.
The Spurs saga surrounding the 6tf 1 centre-back has been going on for months now, ever since he returned from injury fit, but not fit according to Pochettino.
Roberto Martinez didn’t play along with Pochettino’s charade, declaring the footballer 100% ahead of his side’s match with Saudi Arabia.
And that led to Pochettino saying that, actually, he wasn’t picking Alderweireld because of his form.
Unfortunately, when he did play he was probably Tottenham’s best player on the pitch. So Pochettino decided that silence was maybe the best route to take.
However, on Friday, the Tottenham manager was asked a direct question and gave a (sort of) direct answer.
He said that today wasn’t the time to talk about an individual and that he would address the subject on Monday.
Will Alderweireld be here next season? "I think now we need to focus on finishing in the best way. Then from Monday we will talk about next season. That is the moment. Now is not a moment to talk about individual situations." https://t.co/Ok0yvVAGwk

That seems to say that the decision has been made and that it’s not a good one (for Tottenham fans).
And it’s not just us. Senior Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold said, “pochettino’s answer about Toby Alderweireld won’t leave anyone feeling particularly confident that the Belgian will be here next season.”
If the Belgian does leave it will be a big shame. He’s one of the world’s best centre-backs and Tottenham is the perfect fit for him alongside Jan Vertonghen.
He’s not irreplaceable but there’s not many centre-back you’d take in the world ahead of him.
However, his contract situation just got too messy and Daniel Levy’s purse strings just wouldn’t loosen enough to tempt the centre-back, who is looking for one last huge contract.
Wherever he goes and whichever team he does sign for, will be the better for him next season, but as it stands the thread his Tottenham career is hanging on, could be snipped on Monday.
In other Tottenham news, Levy will be making huge mistake if Tottenham player tweet ends up coming true
