Tottenham have 'special' talent on their hands after Destiny Udogie 'surprise' - expert

Tottenham summer signing Destiny Udogie is proving to be a “special talent” after a dazzling start to the season.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On 16 August, Tottenham announced the signing of Udogie, 19, from Udinese though he was immediately loaned back to the club for the 2022-23 campaign.

The defender has registered two goals in six league appearances this season though he has also accumulated four yellow cards.

Wenham is delighted with his progress.

“He is carrying on the form he had last season,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“His form last year was fantastic. We have seen reports in recent weeks that Inter Milan and Juventus both wanted him, as they tend to want all emerging Italian talent.

“The fact that Fabio Paratici identified him alongside Conte, as someone who could come in and could be making the senior Italy squad.

“Apparently there is some surprise that he wasn’t selected this time. Especially coming up to the World Cup, it’s disappointing because I was hoping he would be involved in that.

“If he continues this form then they can’t keep overlooking him. He looks a special talent, I saw the highlights of the game against Roma in which he opened the scoring.

“He bombed into the box, he is actually exceptionally quick as well. The yellow cards are no surprise to me because he seems really aggressive on the ball, a real modern full-back.

“There could be a time in the future where we have both he and Spence bombing on which is really exciting to me, I’m looking forward to seeing that.

“I’m glad Destiny is continuing his development with a side that is doing very well this season, he seems to be getting loads of minutes there.”
