Sources: Tottenham hit by transfer hammer blow
By Wayne Veysey
Tottenham have suffered a significant transfer blow as target Ben Godfrey has agreed the terms of a new contract with Norwich City, Football Insider understands.
A source with knowledge of Spurs recruitment plans has told Football Insider the club have made an enquiry about signing the 21-year-old defender this summer.
Tottenham’s hopes are now all but dead in the water as Godfrey has settled the terms of an improved contract that will tie him to Carrow Road until 2024.
The five-year deal will replace the deal that Godfrey signed last summer and which has another three years to run.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side had made a swoop for the England Under-20 international as they looked at home-grown stars with the potential to eventually replace senior duo Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

The Londoners are now moving on to other targets on their shortlist amid a focus on signing an up-and-coming centre-back this summer who can develop under the guidance of Pochettino and his staff.
Godfrey, who joined Norwich from York City in 2016, established himself as a key member of Daniel Farke’s side as they stormed to the Championship title last month.
He made 31 league appearances season, including 26 consecutive starts in defence since getting in the side in December.
The youngster’s price tag has soared beyond the £10million mark but Norwich are confident of keeping hold of him and all the other stars of their promotion campaign.
