Celtic star Benjamin Nygren is among those who have reached out to Dejan Kulusevski on social media after he made a long-awaited return to action for Tottenham.

Kulusevski suffered a knee injury during Spurs' defeat to Crystal Palace in May 2025, which seemed relatively innocuous at first.

He was subsequently ruled out of their Europa League final against Man United as he began his recovery, with the diagnosis proving much more serious than expected.

He has now finally been able to return to action following a nightmare layoff that lasted over 500 days, with Roberto De Zerbi handing the Swede some minutes from the bench on Monday night as Spurs beat Coventry.

Kulusevski has taken to Instagram to celebrate his long-awaited comeback after Tottenham fans gave him a superb reception in North London.

The 26-year-old has received messages from far and wide following his return, with Nygren leading the tributes to his international teammate.

Kulusevski registered 10 goals and 11 assists in 50 appearances during the 2024-25 campaign before suffering his season-ending injury.

The issue not only ended his campaign, but caused him to miss the whole 2025-26 season after a complicated setback pushed back his return date.

His first appearance in 526 days was marked by Spurs' maiden Premier League win of the new season, as they beat Coventry 3-1 to move up to 16th place after seven matches.

Kulusevski took nine touches in his 12 minutes on the pitch, making four accurate passes and two ball recoveries while winning two ground duels and one foul.

He wrote an emotional message on Instagram on Tuesday morning to mark his comeback, with several Spurs players replying to congratulate him on the return.

Celtic star and Sweden teammate, Nygren, also replied to his post with flexed bicep and fire emojis.

What has De Zerbi said about Kulusevski's return?

De Zerbi should be pleased to see Kulusevski back, not only because of the challenges the 26-year-old has overcome, but also due to how much good it could do to his squad.

The former Juventus winger was one of the Lilywhites' best players before his injury and they need all the inspiration they can get to push back up the table this season.

Spurs boss De Zerbi admitted that Kulusevski and James Maddison being back fit had boosted his squad massively after the Coventry game, saying: "They (Maddison and Kulusevski) are different players. Different talent, different experience, different personality. With them in the dressing room, there is another atmosphere.

"I thought of Kulusevski just for the fans. Just for the fans because they waited (for) him on the pitch and in the last 5-10 minutes for extra time, we needed the support of the fans."
