Exclusive: Tottenham striker Mason Melia to agree move this week after '30 enquiries'

Tottenham Hotspur striker Mason Melia is expected to leave the club on loan this week, sources have told Football Insider.

The 18-year-old is very highly regarded at Spurs, who have high hopes for his development, and are keen for him to play regular senior minutes in the upcoming season.

Sources say Tottenham have fielded over "30 enquiries" for the striker from clubs both in the English Football League and across Europe, with a decision to be made in the coming days.

Melia has played 98 times for Irish outfit St Patrick's Athletic before completing his move to Tottenham in January, 12 months after the deal was agreed.

He has also picked up two senior caps for the Republic of Ireland national team, with huge hopes for his development, and Spurs are keen for him to continue playing regular minutes.

With five years remaining on his contract at Tottenham, the club are keen for him to go out on loan and prove himself, with long-term plans for him to play a role in their side.

Why will Mason Melia be allowed to leave on loan?

Football Insider revealed back in 2024 that Tottenham were closing in on a deal to sign Melia, and two years later, he has finally completed his move to North London.

While he is unlikely to play an immediate role in Roberto De Zerbi's plans, there are hopes that he can prove himself away on loan before his return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

A move to the Championship is considered most likely for the striker, with mutliple clubs in the second tier having held initial talks with Spurs about the possibility of a deal.

His outstanding record in Irish football, where he scored 25 goals in 98 games for St Pat's, have made him one of the most highly regarded young players in Europe.

Which clubs have previously shown an interest in Melia?

Melia has been highly regarded over a number of years, with Spurs' deal to bring him to North London seen as a major coup after they reached an agreement early in 2025.

Despite him not having made a senior appearance for Spurs, their long-term plan for his future is clear, having beaten rivals in the race to lure him in.

Football Insider revealed way back in 2023 that Liverpool had registered their interest in Melia after he became the youngest-ever goalscorer for his former club St Pat's.

The likes of Man City, Chelsea, Celtic, Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt had also looked at bringing the striker in, before he eventually chose Tottenham.

Now, a similar race is set to take place for his signature, with 30 clubs from across Europe battling it out to convince him to join on loan, with Spurs fielding offers this week.
