Gleison Bremer can be Roberto De Zerbi's new secret weapon at Tottenham
Roberto De Zerbi could have a very dangerous trick up his sleeve if Tottenham Hotspur are to trigger Gleison Bremer's release clause this summer.
The 29-year-old Brazilian centre-back has been a stalwart in Serie A over the past eight years, making a name for himself for the most part during his time at Juventus.
Of course, he had to work for his move to the Allianz Stadium, setting the league alight during his time with Torino, and he may finally earn a big-money transfer to the Premier League.
According to Tutto Sport (9 June), he is already at the top of De Zerbi's wishlist ahead of the summer window opening, with Spurs possibly in need of a replacement for Cristian Romero.
It is understood that the centre-half has a €58million release clause (£50.1million), and while Juventus have no desire to sell him, they may have no choice if De Zerbi has his say.
The quality of defenders, obviously, will be a huge concern this summer, especially after the impact they managed to have during the 2025-26 campaign.
Premier League not ready for Gleison Bremer
During the 2025-26 campaign, Arsenal topped the list for most set-piece goals in the Premier League with 23, closely followed by Manchester United and Spurs on 19 each.
Romero grabbed four goals, Joao Palhinha got five, including the key winner against Everton the final day, while Micky van de Ven also netted four times.
This goals were, undoubtedly, key to keeping the Lilywhites in the Premier League last term, and De Zerbi is hoping to add another set-piece animal to the mix.
Bremer racked up four goals and three assists in 31 games in 2025-26, adding to his previous eight goals and one assist for Juventus.
That is just scraping the surface, though. During his time at Torino, the Brazilian notched 13 goals and two assists, making him one of Serie A's most dangerous players from set-pieces.
Back in Febuary, he had the most headed goals of any defender across the top five leagues since the 2019-20 season.
Should Tottenham be concerned by Bremer's injury record?
Understandably, after such an injury-plagued two seasons in North London, supporters are wary of splashing the cash on anyone.
Bremer is far from the perfect angel when it comes to injury records, but he is likely to bring so much more to the team than he is going to take away.
The defender missed 18 games through various injuries last season, as he attempted to return from missing almost the entirety of the 2024-25 campaign with a cruciate ligament tear.
There is every chance that a move to Hotspur Way could help him put some of these injury issues behind him, but it could be seen as quite the risk given some of the long-term issues in North London already.
