James Maddison has welcomed Andy Robertson to Tottenham Hotspur after the club confirmed his arrival on a free transfer.

Spurs are in need of several key additions this summer after such a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.

Robertson was on their radar in January, but chose to see the season out at Liverpool as they finished fifth in the Premier League

Tottenham confirmed on Friday that the Scottish left-back will officially sign for the club when his Reds contract expires on 1 July.

He is set to be a key part of Roberto De Zerbi's squad next season, with Maddison now reaching out to welcome Robertson to the club.

Maddison featured just three times for Tottenham throughout the last campaign after suffering an ACL injury in pre-season.

He recovered in time to help pull Spurs to safety, with outings in each of their final three matches of the campaign.

The 29-year-old will be hoping to see several new additions made to bolster their chances of success under De Zerbi, and is clearly happy with Robertson's arrival.

He took to his Instagram story to reply to the video of Robertson below by saying: "Welcome Andrew," while also tagging the left-back with several heart-face emojis.

Robertson and Maddison have not played together yet in their careers so far, but are clearly close friends already, with the Scotland captain replying: "James" with a white heart emoji on his own Instagram story.

Could Maddison leave Spurs this summer?

Maddison has proven his quality across several seasons in the Premier League with Leicester and Tottenham.

While he has struggled with a serious injury over the last 10 months, sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Coventry want to re-sign Maddison this summer after being promoted from the Championship.

The England playmaker made his name with the Sky Blues after working his way through their youth ranks to be a first-team player between 2014 and 2016.

Frank Lampard may fancy his chances of tempting Maddison back to the CBS Arena, but a return certainly seems unlikely this summer.

He has already been trusted by De Zerbi to make an impact, and will surely be a key man under the Italian, alongside Robertson, next season.
