Lucas Bergvall leads Tottenham exodus as 'a lot of players' to be sold - expert
Roberto De Zerbi could bid farewell to multiple of the current Tottenham Hotspur squad, as the new manager makes additions.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that Hotspur Way will host "a lot of player trading" ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
This comes after the news that Lucas Bergvall wants a move away after just two seasons in North London, with the midfielder unhappy with his minutes on the pitch.
Spurs have already signed Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers, as well as splashing £52million on Jan Paul van Hecke.
De Zerbi has already admitted that only a portion of the current squad are good enough for him to bring into a new season, but the Lilywhites have only made additions so far.
As pointed out by Borson, Wilson Odobert, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski and Xavi Simons have yet to return from injury, all of whom are bound to throw spanners in the works.
Lucas Bergvall just the first of many Tottenham exits
Several players are likely to follow Bergvall through the exit doors, with the futures of Richarlison, Archie Gray, Yves Bissouma and Cristian Romero all being questioned.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, he said: "There's going to be a lot of trading at Spurs. You can see how many players they're bidding on.
"Obviously, they're not going to just buy all these players. They've already got a relatively big squad when everybody comes back from injury.
"So, what you're going to find is that they're just going to trade a lot. So you can buy a lot of players, you can sell a lot of players as well.
"And so I think he [Lucas Bergvall] is just could be part of that process."
Why Spurs cannot afford to just keep spending
Supporters have been excited by the idea that, without European football, Spurs' spending will not be capped as much as the other teams.
However, as Borson has previously said to Football Insider, the Lilywhites are likely to lose out on as much as £100m after a horrendous 2025-26 campaign.
De Zerbi's side are without any European football at all, and were nearly relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the season.
Of course, the new manager wants to make changes. And it needs to be more than just a change of players. The mentality needs to shift as well.
