James Maddison and Dominic Solanke are just two of Tottenham Hotspur's stars to seriously struggle with injuries this season.

Xavi Simons is set to be sidelined for months after a huge blow against Wolves, joining Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario, Wilson Odobert, Mohamed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski on the treatment table.

Despite the setbacks, Roberto De Zerbi is closing in on the impossible in North London, having moved two points clear of the relegation zone with a 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Monday, 9 May.

Solanke remains on the sidelines, having also not appeared since the win at Molineux Stadium, but Spurs have been provided a massive boost in the form of Maddison's return to the pitch.

James Maddison experiences emotional Tottenham return

The former Leicester City man returned to the field for the first time in over a year, and you could see exactly how much it meant to him when walking down the tunnel after the full-time whistle.

Of course, antics on social media could mean that Maddison lands in very hot water with the FA, but that will be a problem for the future should he be charged for comments about PGMOL officials.

He wasn't the only emotional one at Hotspur Way, being given a hug by former manager Daniel Farke following the 1-1 draw, and Solanke has also sent a message to the playmaker on social media.

Taking to Instagram (12 May), Solanke, who knows the same frustrations as his teammate this season, simply wrote, "Welcome back, brother," with two white love hearts.

Loving messages pour in for returning Tottenham star

Solanke had shared Maddison's post along with his message, and the midfielder's original post has caught plenty of attention on social media after the Leeds game [Instagram].

Micky van de Ven responded with a loved-up emoji, while Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers replied, "My brother," with three love hearts, and Everton loanee Jack Grealish gave clapping and love emojis.

Maddison even received a message from Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer, who simply replied with four clapping emojis. It is clear to see how much the footballing world loves him.

The Lilywhites next take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and while it is not a must-win, it would confirm safety, with West Ham joining Burnley and Wolves in the Championship next season.
