Tottenham Hotspur’s horrific form continued on Tuesday as they crashed out of the Carabao Cup thanks to a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

It was yet another disappointing display from Roberto De Zerbi’s side as they made it four games without a victory in all competitions.

Few players impressed in Merseyside, and many were unable to have a positive effect on the game.

One of the worst stars was Mathys Tel, who was largely anonymous on the left wing before he was hauled off in the 85^thminute.

The 21-year-old’s display disgusted many Tottenham supporters, with the attacker yet to pick up a single goal contribution this season.

Now, fans have claimed that they cannot keep defending Tel after Spurs exited the Carabao Cup for yet another campaign.

Tel has been rubbish at Tottenham for some time.

Last season, the winger only scored four times and picked up one assist in the Premier League in 31 matches as he struggled to hold down a starting spot.

Nevertheless, De Zerbi has installed a lot of trust in the youngster this campaign and has started him in all but one of their matches in all competitions.

Yet, this faith has not been rewarded, with Tel often doing little to nothing positive on the pitch.

Now, the defeat to Liverpool appears to be the final straw, with many supporters taking to X after the match to blast the attacker’s performance at Anfield.

How bad was Tel vs Liverpool?

When examining Tel’s stats against Liverpool, they are extremely poor.

According to Fotmob on 16 September, he only completed 71 per cent of his passes, created zero chances, had a 0.03 xA, had zero shots, won five out of his12 ground duels and was dispossessed four times.

Therefore, not only was Tel anonymous in attack, but he was also ineffective when going back to help out in defence.

As a result, it is hard to see how the winger keeps his place in the starting XI going forward as he continues to underperform.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Tel is able to bounce back from his poor start to the new campaign.
