'So poor' - Ex-Tottenham scout can't believe how Spurs staff reacted to Nottingham Forest result

Tottenham Hotspur should be far more disappointed with the way they have started the season than they have appeared at times.

That is the opinion of former senior Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The Lilywhites have failed to win a Premier League game yet or even score a goal, ending their streak of losses by drawing 0-0 with Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Tottenham spent over £400million in the summer transfer window on 10 new arrivals, and did manage to progress in the Carabao Cup when they beat Charlton Athletic.

Roberto De Zerbi's focus will be primarily on the Premier League, however, with it essential that his team do not get anywhere near as close to relegation as they did last season.

There are aspirations of a push for European football this season, but Tottenham will need to undergo a significant improvement in the coming weeks if that is to become a possibility.

Tottenham 'were so happy with the draw' against Nottingham Forest

On another day, Tottenham could have beaten Nottingham Forest if Omar Marmoush had not fired wide when through on goal.

But they can also admit to having been fortunate to see Neco Williams' goal disallowed for a controversial handball.

Still, De Zerbi will know that for Tottenham, the little steps are important and avoiding defeat for the third consecutive Premier League game was vital.

"Certainly the performance against Nottingham Forest showed that they were fighting for a result," King told Football Insider.

"But again, the money they spent, they should be going to Nottingham Forest and saying, 'if we go away from here with a draw, we're not going to be happy.'

"But I think they were so happy with the draw. And after the result against Charlton, the staff reaction was as though they'd just beaten Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the Champions League.

"There's a lot of things that ain't right there, that is for sure. They've got to start winning games for a start. I just think that this is the third year that Tottenham have had a poor home record. It didn't just happen.

"This is the third year that the performances at the best stadium in the country have been so poor. They've got to start winning games. They've got to start playing football. That's the only way you're going to get this Spurs crowd on your side."

Key Tottenham period approaching

Even after a difficult start for Tottenham, it does not get much easier over the coming weeks.

Everton have been in good form to start the campaign but will be seen as a must-win, with a trip to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup set to precede games against Aston Villa, Manchester United, Coventry City and Chelsea.

The fixture list grows more accommodating after that, in a period Tottenham should look to rack up the points.

Alarm bells will be ringing if De Zerbi's team still have not found their form by that point.
