Sources: Tottenham make Guglielmo Vicario exit decision as giants circle
Tottenham will let Guglielmo Vicario leave the club this summer if their valuation of his services is met, Football Insider understands.
Recently appointed boss Roberto De Zerbi does not see him as his first-choice goalkeeper heading into next season despite his status as a long-time starter at the club.
Vicario has attracted interest from Juventus and other Serie A clubs, with a return to his home country seeming most likely as it stands.
The 29-year-old was benched towards the end of last season, despite recovering from a hernia injury, as his compatriot preferred Antonin Kinsky in Spurs' battle against relegation.
He does not look to have a future in North London beyond this summer, with just two years left on his contract as it stands.
Vicario has made 117 appearances for Spurs since joining from Empoli in 2023, and was key to their Europa League success under Ange Postecoglou.
He emerged with one of the worst save percentage statistics among Premier League keepers last term, and kept just seven clean sheets in 31 league appearances
Guglielmo Vicario allowed to leave Tottenham as Roberto De Zerbi prefers Antonin Kinsky
Kinsky first came into the team towards the end of the campaign against Atletico Madrid, but committed two errors leading to goals and was quickly replaced by Vicario.
The Italian stopper's injury picked up in March allowed Kinsky to return to the side under De Zerbi, and he impressed in the final seven games of the season.
The Tottenham manager praised Kinsky as having a "great personality" and "strong character", which could not be further away from his quotes on Vicario.
Before he took charge of his first Spurs match against Sunderland, he addressed speculation linking Vicario away from north London and said: “I certainly don’t want players who don’t want to stay. I want players who are happy to work at this club.”
Vicario now looks likely to leave, providing an interested club can stump up enough for Spurs to agree to a sale.
Which goalkeepers are Spurs targeting this summer?
De Zerbi has faith in Kinsky, but is still likely to want to sign a new stopper to provide competition to the 23-year-old ahead of Brandon Austin.
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Tottenham are keen on signing Robin Roefs after his strong debut season at Sunderland.
Roefs helped the Black Cats qualify for the Europa League on their return to the top flight, with 10 clean sheets and a 70.3 save percentage in 35 league games.
Martin Dubravka has also been linked with a move to Tottenham after a decent individual campaign at Burnley.
