Sources: Tottenham register interest in Djed Spence replacement

Tottenham Hotspur are among several Premier League clubs monitoring the progress of Real Sociedad defender Jon Aramburu, sources have told Football Insider.

The Lilywhites are in the market for reinforcements at right-back after selling Djed Spence to Inter Milan and are keen to add competition for Pedro Porro.

The 24-year-old has impressed for the Spanish side in the last two seasons and reportedly has a £51million release clause in his contract, which runs until 2030.

Aramburu's arrival would allow Archie Gray to step into midfield, after he struggled at right-back in Tottenham's Premier League opening-day defeat to Brentford last week.

Roberto De Zerbi has already seen well over £300m of new signings join his squad this summer so far, with the £60m arrival of Omar Marmoush confirmed on Thursday.

But Tottenham are keen to keep strengthening, and are expected to still pursue a move for Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo.

Why are Tottenham interested in Jon Aramburu?

Aramburu was born in Caracas, Venezuala and has made 22 appearances as a full international.

Sociedad would be his academy at the age of 14, however, but FIFA regulations ultimately saw him forced to return to Venezuala in 2017.

The 24-year-old would sign for La Guaira, before returning to Spain with Real Union in 2022 and later making his full return to Sociedad.

Since then, Aramburu has made 108 appearances for the club and has established himself as an incredibly reliable option, making 42 appearances across all competitions last season.

However, Sociedad's move for Barcelona right-back Hector Fort, who is set to join the club in a £7m deal this week, has sewn doubt over Aramburu's future.

What type of player is Aramburu?

Alternatively to Porro, Aramburu is very much a defensively-minded full-back. The 24-year-old created just 0.36 chances and delivered 0.23 successful crosses per game last season in La Liga.

His defensive stats are where he truly shines. The Venezuala international made 3.42 tackles and 1.52 interceptions per game, and won 1.46 free kicks.

In all, he averaged 8.29 defensive contributions per game - better than 94.4 per cent of other defenders in La Liga.

In the duel, Aramburu registered 6.77 duels won per game and dominated in the air, winning 71.4 per cent of his aerials.

Should Tottenham make a move for the Aramburu this summer, they will be adding a very different option to Porro, but one who could potentially be just as valuable.
