Stefan Borson shares Daniel Levy verdict after 'very unusual' Tottenham twist

Published on

Daniel Levy's future at Tottenham Hotspur continues to be a confusing situation, as supporters "remain in the dark".

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the current ownership situation is an "unusual" one.

Levy stepped down as Spurs chairman in September 2025, but nearly 12 months later, the 64-year-old remains a figure behind the scenes.

The sale of Levy's shares are yet to go through, and while it seems like he would be investing more money in recent months, he has missed multiple deadlines to do so.

Eight Sports Capital announced an agreement to buy the figure's 24.99 per cent stake in ENIC, with £750million loan being taken out to do so.

It was understood that this would be paid in three separate payments, but the first of those instalments are believed not to have arrived yet.

Tottenham ownership situation is 'very odd'

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson admitted to remaining confused over the situation at Spurs involving Levy and the ownership.

"It's a slightly unusual story in that it talks about a £750m loan to buy the shares. The idea was that it would be paid in three instalments," he said.

"One on 21 August, one on 31 August, and one, I think was the 11 September. That in itself is a fairly unusual way of doing things...

"Especially in a transaction where you would have thought payment would have been required in one go to complete the transaction.

"We remain slightly in the dark. It's been a very odd scenario the whole way through because there was an initial denial by Daniel Levy. Then there was just total silence.

"Then you've had the scenario where Spurs have clearly spent huge amounts of money this summer and in doing so have needed to dilute the equity of all the shareholders that weren't going to stand their corner for cash requirement that the club had.

"Levy's not been willing to stand his corner in terms of putting the cash in that would have followed his money.

"And then you've got the strange situation in terms of the actual deal happening and what looks like clearly missing the key dates."

Daniel Levy's legacy cannot be overlooked

Levy was often viewed as a controversial figure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but he's the reason fans were able to do so from their seats.

He oversaw the construction of Spurs' incredible new stadium, which is now one of the most commercially powerful venues in Europe.

Levy also helped create a world-class training complex, as well as always making sure that the Lilywhites were on the right side of the financial rules.

It was the lack of ambition shown on the pitch that was the problem, however. The Lewis Family have certainly changed that, and we'll see how that goes in 2026-27.
