Tottenham's board need a reality check if they are demanding £20million to sell young striker Will Lankshear.

Spurs' fast start to the summer window has caught the eye, with Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi both already through the door.

They look set to wrap up a £52million move for Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke in the coming days too, so are clearly keen to get some serious business done after a shoddy 2025-26 season.

Such high-quality arrivals and a lack of European football mean they will need to raise funds through sales in the coming months.

Lankshear has been linked with a move away after a successful loan spell at Oxford United, and a new report from Hayters has claimed that Spurs want around £20m for his services and could be tempted to sell him if a sizable offer is made.

Portuguese giants Sporting CP are believed to be keen on his services, while numerous Championship clubs have already asked to take him on loan.

While Lankshear is clearly a talented striker, Spurs stand no chance of agreeing a sale if they are asking for such an unrealistic figure.

Will Lankshear is not worth £20million despite valuable Oxford spell

Lankshear won plaudits throughout the last campaign for his impressive individual performances at Oxford, despite their relegation to League One.

He bagged 12 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions for the U’s, and won their Young Player of the Year award for his strong showings.

Spurs are expecting to sign a new striker this summer, so the 21-year-old's chances of making an impression on Roberto De Zerbi already seem slim.

If they are willing to let him leave permanently this summer, then they have to temper expectations and lower their reported demands.

Lankshear may have talent, but has only proven so over one season in the Championship so far.

He failed to make an impression at West Brom in 2024-25, and did not particularly impress statistically last term.

Aside from his goals, Lankshear was among the worst-rated second-tier strikers for passes, chances created, dribbles, aerial duels won and touches in the opposition box per 90.

He is simply not worth £20m yet, and there will surely not be a single club out there willing to sign him for such a fee.

Tottenham: Roberto De Zerbi has new plan for Will Lankshear in pre-season return

What has Lankshear said about his Spurs' future?

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that De Zerbi will fairly assess Lankshear in pre-season training before any move away is sanctioned.

He may well stay at Spurs and be given a chance if he impresses the Italian, after recently speaking publicly on what could come next in his career.

Lankshear spoke about his spell with the U's and plans to talk with Spurs about his future with BBC Radio Oxford earlier in May, saying: “The end of the season has just come, but I’m sure a conversation will be had (with Tottenham).

"I’ll do whatever I get told to do. All I can focus on are the things I can control, like training hard and focusing on next season now."
