Tottenham expert stunned by Omar Marmoush's '£300,000-a-week' deal

The Premier League is struggling to create new managers because players like Tottenham Hotspur target Omar Marmoush are on £15million per year.

That is the opinion of former senior Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The 27-year-old joined Manchester City in January last year, signing in a deal from Eintracht Frankfurt worth around £59m.

Tottenham are said to be interested in a move for Marmoush this summer as Roberto De Zerbi attempts to complete an overhaul of his squad.

The Egypt international scored eight goals across all competitions last season and could be set to push for a move away after making just eight Premier League starts.

Tottenham are also interested in Savinho and Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo, with their summer spending expected to soar past £300m.

Premier League players unmotivated to enter coaching

There appears to have been a decline in the number of Premier League players entering coaching following their retirement in recent years.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a prime example of a success story, having retired with the Gunners in 2016, but few appear to have followed him.

King told Football Insider that he believes the money is behind the trend. "Have you seen Marmoush's money, what he's on at Man City? £15m a year he's on," he said.

"Deary me. I was born too early. Somebody said to me about why we're not producing young managers anymore. Why should they? Five years in the Premier League, you're set for life.

"Why should they have all that aggravation? They're spending £20k to get a UEFA Pro Licence and then get criticised and sacked or whatever. Go through all that.

"You know, in the old days, of course, players, when you finished playing, you moved into coaching or management. You had to. 

"But today, I mean, if they're sensible, five years in the Premier League and it's put your feet up time, for the rest of your life or do whatever you want."

Can Tottenham match Omar Marmoush's wages?

For Tottenham the main problem with a potential move for Marmoush may well be matching those significant wages.

The forward would be a great option for De Zerbi and certainly an upgrade on what they have, but the financial cost of a deal would be sizable.

The Egypt international would also certainly command a fee close to or if not matching the £59m Man City paid just last year.

Tottenham appear to have a large budget this summer, but there is likely more sensible moves to be made than one for Marmoush.
