Tottenham have bid '£60m' for two players 'all of a sudden' after deal agreed
Tottenham Hotspur should avoid overpaying for Savinho and Cody Gakpo due to the Djed Spence fee.
That is the opinion of former senior Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
Spence, 26, left the Lilywhites to join Inter Milan in a deal worth around £25.6m last week, days after Cristian Romero's £34m exit had been confirmed
Tottenham fans were left incensed by both fees for players, who enjoyed terrific World Cup campaigns and had multiple years remaining on their contracts.
The fees will help fund several attacking incomings that transfer chiefs in North London hope to see pulled off in the coming days.
Gakpo has fallen into the background for now but remains a key target, while Tottenham are pursuing a £150m move for Man City duo Savinho and Omar Marmoush.
Tottenham received 'very little return' for Djed Spence
The arrivals of Marmoush and Savinho are expected to take Tottenham's spending close to £400m this summer.
Roberto De Zerbi's squad has been overhauled, with the Lilywhites making a number of sales, too.
Several young players, such as Ashley Phillips and Alfie Devine, have left for good fees, while Luka Vuskovic, Spence and Romero make up the bulk of the incoming funds.
It remains a mystery how both fully-fledged internationals have managed to go for a combined fee just exceeding the fee Brighton paid for the young centre-back, however.
"It seems very little return for a player who's done very, very well for Tottenham," King told Football Insider when asked about the deal to sign sell Spence.
"All of a sudden, they've got £60m in for two players, both full internationals, who played in the World Cup. I can understand a little bit Romero. I can understand that because of his uncertainty regarding [his future]. They'll definitely be looking for a new captain, that's for sure."
"This is a player [Savinho] who ain't exactly in the first 11 for Man City. They're talking about him and also the Liverpool centre-forward who scored at the weekend, didn't he? Gakpo.
"Having a look at Spence's fee, I'd have said for those two, £60m would have been a fair offer."
Who else could leave Tottenham?
There are several exits that could still take place in the closing days of the transfer window.
Richarlison and Dominic Solanke have been linked with moves away, with the former's contract due to expire next summer.
Mikey Moore could still leave on loan, while Pape Matar Sarr and Lucas Bergvall have also been tipped for exits.
At least one attacker will undoubtedly leave if Tottenham do pull off moves for Marmoush and Savinho, and another will surely go if Gakpo joins.
