Tottenham make contact over Maghnes Akliouche deal as race intensifies
Maghnes Akliouche is expected to leave Monaco this summer with Tottenham Hotspur among the clubs to have expressed their interest.
PSG reportedly leading the race to sign the 24-year-old, who is on the radar of multiple Premier League clubs.
The winger enjoyed a fantastic season, scoring seven goals and providing 10 assists across all competitions.
Tottenham's interest in Akliouche dates back to last summer, when they held strong interest but ultimately signed Xavi Simons instead.
This summer, however, Roberto De Zerbi is keen to add depth and quality to his squad, with sources telling Football Insider that the North London club are being kept informed of the forward's movements.
The France international is currently at the World Cup, although several transfers have already happened for players in North America this summer.
Tottenham would be foolish to miss out on Maghnes Akliouche
Akliouche, a right-sided winger capable of playing in the midfield or through the middle of the attack, made his breakthrough in 2023.
Since then, he has developed into one of Ligue 1's most talented young forwards, starring for Monaco.
While Tottenham brought in both Mohammed Kudus and Simons for similar positions last season, they looked to massively lack creativity last season.
By signing Akliouche, they would be addressing that problem, but they must act quickly.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday that PSG are leading the race over two Premier League clubs, with bids expected soon.
The 24-year-old was a constant threat for Monaco last season, scoring six goals from 7.22 expected goals (xG) and creating 44 chances.
Technically brilliant, the winger thrives on the ball, completing 26 dribbles, winning 36 free-kicks and 104 duels this season.
Should Tottenham want to climb back up the table, Akliouche is exactly the sort of signing they must push the boat out for.
What Akliouche has said on his future
Akliouche only made his debut for the France senior squad in September, but caught Didier Deschamps' eye immediately.
He has been present in every squad since, and was selected for the World Cup.
So far, his only appearance has come against Iraq, with the likes of Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembele in front of him.
Asked about his future last week, Akliouche said: "I understand why this question is being asked but for now, I am focused on the World Cup."
