Tottenham player with eight touches in opposition box vs Villa is the one bright spark

Savinho was one of very few shining lights for Tottenham Hotspur as they lost 3-2 to Aston Villa in North London on Saturday.

Emiliano Buendia's screamer ultimately proved to be the winner for the visitors, with the Lilywhites finally scoring their first goals of the Premier League season late on.

The wait for victory goes on, however, with Roberto De Zerbi's side sat in the relegation zone after five games played.

Savinho joined Tottenham from Manchester City this summer in a deal worth up to £85million, and started in the perfect way when he scored on his debut against Charlton Athletic.

Yet the 22-year-old has failed to score or assist since, despite a string of promising performances.

Tottenham and Savinho will have to wait until after the international break to bounce back, with a clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford awaiting.

Savinho stats are a glimmer of hope for Tottenham

Tottenham fans have not had much to get excited about in North London over the past year, but in Savinho, they have a beacon of light.

The Brazilian was by far their most positive player against Villa, constantly running at his man and generating danger.

Amid so many questions for the Tottenham front line, the 22-year-old often looks to be the only player intent on creating something for his team.

Savinho created four chances - the joint-most on the pitch - including a big chance for Archie Gray that was saved well.

He had three shots on target himself, too, with Zion Suzuki making a brilliant double save to deny him in the first half.

Savinho attempted seven dribbles and completed three - the joint-most with any Tottenham player - and took eight touches in the opposition box, the joint-most on the pitch.

He was fouled twice and stood up defensively, too, making three recoveries, two interceptions and winning five duels.

Roberto De Zerbi hoping to see his team emulate Savinho

If the entire Tottenham team can perform at the same level Savinho is currently at, the results will start to come. There is more he can improve on himself, however.

"I don’t know if I’m the right man [to help him score more], but he has to achieve," De Zerbi said when the winger arrived in August.

"Players so good at creating chances, to be complete they need to score. If you analyse the other top wingers in the world, many score ten or 15 goals a season. He has the qualities.

"He has the habits, he has to change habits, be focused on one-v-ones and score. You become a top team by scoring more goals."

Goals win games, and Tottenham need them immediately.
