Tottenham to make 'nice profit' as Lucas Bergvall told 'you have no future in this side'

Roberto De Zerbi has likely informed Lucas Bergvall that he will struggle for minutes at Tottenham Hotspur next season.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that a club such as Brighton could land the midfielder's signature.

After just two seasons in North London, having arrived on an £8.5million deal July 2024, it has emerged that Bergvall has already requested to leave.

Due to a lack of minutes last season, starting just 11 Premier League games, the Swedish international clearly sees his future elsewhere, especially if he's already talked with the manager.

Several teams, including Aston Villa and Liverpool, have already registered an interest in the 20-year-old, though Borson has thrown Brighton into the mix this summer.

De Zerbi likely has plenty of business to do before the 2026-27 campaign kicks off, and getting Bergvall off the books should be a priority for the Lilywhites.

Lucas Bergvall 'doesn't have a future at Tottenham'

While some reports suggest that Spurs are asking for £45m, the financial expert has been slightly more conservative with his estimated transfer fee.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: "Well, I would think his going rate is probably the £40m-mark, so they'll make a nice profit.

"The issue that he's got is, where does he go that guarantees him more starts? It's not that easy to see where that would be.

"Unless it was to, maybe again, a side like Brighton. But is that really what he wants? If he wants to stay at a very big club, then he's going to have to deal with the fact that he's not going to start every week.

"It's getting that balance right with these guys. But presumably, something around the manager has told him that he doesn't have much of a future in the side.

"And therefore it would be probably better for him to move on."

Which clubs could make a move this summer?

The Seagulls are yet to be linked with a move for the 20-year-old, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him potentially join Luka Vuskovic at the Amex Stadium.

Football Insider understands that both Villa and Nottingham Forest are interested, but Spurs won't be forced into selling for a bargain because of the situation.

If anything, Bergvall's performances at the 2026 World Cup could help boost his price tag this summer, with Sweden set to face France in the round of 32.

It is clear that Bergvall's future needs to be sorted sooner rather than later, and it would appear that both parties are certain that an exit is the likeliest outcome.
