'Tottenham's record signing spree ruined by one transfer blunder that will haunt them'

Tottenham Hotspur failed to add a quality striker in the summer and will be limited as long as they are without one.

That is the opinion of former senior Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The Lilywhites spent over £400million on ten new players in the summer transfer window, including the signing of Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush.

The 27-year-old scored just eight goals last season for the Citizens, but it is hoped that he can thrive at Tottenham with increased minutes.

Roberto De Zerbi's attack has also been bolstered by the arrivals of Mykhailo Mudryk and Savinho, although the former has already been ruled out for several weeks through injury.

Tottenham attempted to sell Richarlison in the summer and look set to lose him, as he attempts to push through a return to Brazil.

Tottenham have got 'nowhere near a good team'

Despite all of the new additions, it has been a difficult start to the season for Tottenham.

Defeats to Brentford and Newcastle United in the Premier League were followed by a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

With a difficult run of fixtures coming up, Saturday's clash against Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium already appears key.

"They've got the best facilities, the best pitch. It comes down to, in fact, again, they don't seem to have the best players," King told Football Insider.

"And if they think they've got the best players, they certainly haven't got nowhere near a good team. People are playing out of position, they're chopping and changing players around.

"For me, they still haven't got an out-and-out class centre forward. They've got those three up front that cost £165m between them. They've just spent over £400m on new players. They ain't scored a goal yet.

"They've got one point out of nine. Where does it lay? Well, for me, it lays in the recruitment. And by the look of it, it's not much better on the coaching staff. For me, they're not hungry enough."

Can Omar Marmoush be Tottenham's difference-maker?

In many ways, Tottenham are still attempting to find a way to replace Harry Kane, who left in 2023.

The Lilywhites hope that Marmoush can be that regular goal-scorer, and he has shown signs of the ability.

The 2024-25 season that saw him join Man City in January also saw him net 28 goals and provide 14 assists across all competitions. If he can replicate numbers like that, Tottenham will be in dreamland.

Yet it remains a big if, and it is hard to see where else De Zerbi looks this season if Marmoush cannot be that man.
