Antonio Rudiger to Tottenham update as ‘most likely’ destination revealed
Tottenham Hotspur could still consider a move to sign Real Madrid centre-back Antonio Rudiger next summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Lilywhites were heavily linked with a move for the 33-year-old ahead of this season, but ultimately opted against firming up their interest.
However, it is understood that Roberto De Zerbi’s side are continuing to keep tabs on the former Chelsea man, and could be prepared to move for him when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Nevertheless, sources say that Rudiger’s “most likely” destination is the Saudi Pro League, rather than him signing another deal in Europe when he leaves Real Madrid.
Tottenham are big admirers of his experience, but have some reservations about bringing him in.
De Zerbi’s side have endured another difficult start to the season, and are exploring more ways of improving their squad.
Tottenham likely to target younger centre-back option
Rudiger’s age continues to provide an element of concern for Spurs, especially given that he will be 34 by the time next summer comes around.
The North London outfit have tended to favour moves for younger players with a significant resale value in recent years, and that is something that they intend to continue long-term.
Tottenham won’t rule out signing a more experienced player, highlighted by the additions of Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi this summer, but there is an acceptance that it must be someone who provides the right fit for their group.
They are far more keen to continue to bring in younger players or stars who are in their prime, knowing that they carry a greater value on the transfer market.
With that in mind, if they do decide to bolster their backline in the next 12 months, it is likely to be someone far younger than Rudiger who comes through the door.
Dominic Solanke has ‘five games’ to save Tottenham career
Former Spurs scout Bryan King told Football Insider earlier this week that striker Dominic Solanke potentially has just “five games” to save his career with the club.
The former Bournemouth ace notched his first Premier League goal of the season in the draw with Manchester United last weekend, but still has a huge question mark over his ability.
King believes that Solanke hasn’t achieved “anywhere near” what was expected of him given his £60million price tag, and believes that his future must now be up for serious debate.
The ex-recruitment man feels that the England international is running out of time to prove himself in North London, before he is replaced by a new addition at the top of the pitch.
