Cody Gakpo odds-on to complete Tottenham move after forward deal agreed
Tottenham Hotspur are now the odds-on favourites to win the race for Cody Gakpo in what could be a sensational late transfer window deal.
This comes amid reports that Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Bradley Barcola, with the club reaching an agreement in principle to sign the winger.
As a result, the Reds may be willing to let the Netherlands international depart, with his importance in the first-team likely to decline.
Now, one UK bookmaker believes that Spurs are extremely likely to complete a deal for Gakpo before the transfer window closes, slashing the odds down to 4/7.
The winger has been heavily linked to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for months, and their interest is not thought to have diminished in recent weeks.
This is despite Spurs signing Savio and Omar Marmoush in recent days.
Cody Gakpo could be a transformative signing for Tottenham
So far this summer, Spurs have been keen to upgrade their frontline.
Numerous big players have come into the club as they look to drag themselves away from any potential relegation trouble.
However, if they are able to get the signing of Gakpo over the line, it could be a transformative addition to their squad.
Despite his inconsistent form last season, the attacker is clearly a top player, and this was shown at both the 2026 World Cup and in Liverpool’s opening game of the Premier League season against Newcastle.
Therefore, if Spurs can add a player of his quality to their squad, he instantly becomes a starter and would certainly win the club multiple points throughout the 2026-27 campaign.
However, it remains to be seen if Tottenham can complete a deal before the transfer window closes on 1 September.
Who else is in the race for Gakpo?
Away from Spurs, the bookies do not believe there is another realistic destination for the winger this summer.
Both Arsenal and Aston Villa are viewed as the joint-second favourites, at 18/1 odds.
Following this, Chelsea are considered potential outsiders at 25/1 after spending heavily this summer.
A stay at Liverpool is still seen as possible at 11/10, with Andoni Iraola potentially open to the attacker staying at the club.
However, it remains to be seen where Gakpo will be playing his football throughout the 2026-27 campaign.
