Sources: Mathys Tel ready to 'push' for Tottenham exit on one condition

Mathys Tel could "push to leave" Tottenham Hotspur if he is pushed down the pecking order by new additions, sources have told Football Insider.

The Lilywhites have no plans to sell the 21-year-old at the moment, but are looking to strengthen with further reinforcements in attacking areas.

The former Bayern Munich man is desperate for regular gametime, and could try to force an exit from North London if it becomes clear that he won't get that next term.

Roberto De Zerbi is happy with the youngster for now, but is keen to add fresh faces in the wide areas before the campaign gets underway.

Tel started 13 games in the Premier League last season, and ended 2025-26 with four goals and one assist to his name in the league.

He is hoping for a bigger role under De Zerbi this time around, but is expected to have interest from across Europe if that doesn't materialise.

Tel had a difficult first full campaign in Tottenham colours after they paid £30million to sign him last summer.

He was initially left out of the squad for the Champions League by Thomas Frank, but eventually recovered to start the final four games in Spurs' crucial relegation battle.

He notched a goal and an assist during those four starts and became one of the team's main sources of creativity.

The France youth international has his eyes fixed firmly on bigger things in 2026-27, but is prepared to walk away from Tottenham if needs be.

Tel has been subject to interest from both Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga since joining Spurs, and it is expected that he would have no shortage of potential suitors if he became available.

Brighton want to strike 'compromise' for Spurs starlet

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Brighton are looking to strike a "compromise" with Spurs in their pursuit of Luka Vuskovic.

The Seagulls don't want to pay the young centre-back's £60m asking price, and have already seen as offer of £30m knocked back by the capital club.

Tottenham are trying to drive the starlet's price up as much as possible as talks between the two clubs continue, but Brighton remain hopeful of a cut-price deal.
