Sources: Tottenham ‘expected’ to submit Mateus Fernandes bid as talks accelerate
Tottenham Hotspur are “expected” to table an offer for West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes, sources have told Football Insider.
Negotiations are currently ongoing between Spurs and the 21-year-old’s agent, with the club trying to “accelerate” things to win the race to his signature.
Reports have indicated that West Ham want £85million for Fernandes, but Tottenham are aiming to strike a deal below this asking price.
Multiple other clubs are credited with interest in the midfielder, including Real Madrid, PSG and Manchester United, which could derail Spurs’ transfer plans.
However, none of these clubs are willing to meet West Ham’s asking price either.
Fernandes played 36 appearances for the Hammers last season in the Premier League as the club were unable to avoid relegation to the Championship.
Mateus Fernandes’ transfer saga continues to drag on
Fernandes was no doubt one of West Ham’s star players last season.
The midfielder netted three goals and picked up four assists in the Premier League, and put in plenty of eye-catching displays.
As a result, the interest in the youngster is not unexpected, as West Ham prepare for their return to the second tier.
However, with so many clubs interested in Fernandes, there is a possibility that this saga will continue to drag out.
West Ham will be hoping for a potential bidding war for their star midfielder as they look to maximise as much profit as possible this summer.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen where Fernandes will be playing his football for the 2026-27 campaign, as his future remains unresolved.
Who else is on Tottenham’s radar this summer?
Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Tottenham are also looking to sign Cody Gakpo this summer transfer window.
The attacker currently has an uncertain future at Liverpool as the club aims to bolster its options up top over the coming months.
Spurs have reportedly identified the Netherlands international as a top target in hopes of adding more goals to their attack.
Gakpo is currently away on international duty with the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup, meaning any potential deal will likely have to wait until the tournament has concluded.
The 27-year-old had a frustrating 2025-26 campaign at Liverpool, which could make a potential deal easier to negotiate.
