Sources: Tottenham in talks over Luca Williams-Barnett deal
Tottenham Hotspur are in talks over a new deal for young attacking midfielder Luca Williams-Barnett, sources have told Football Insider.
The 18-year-old is attracting interest from several top clubs, including both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, but Spurs are now working to secure his future.
The Lilywhites rate the starlet extremely highly and have no desire to lose him in the coming years.
Sources say that they are already making progress towards a new deal for the homegrown talent, who only signed his first professional contract in October 2025.
However, he is now in line for a new deal, with Spurs desperate to fend off the interest that is growing in him elsewhere.
Williams-Barnett came off the bench in the Carabao Cup win over Charlton Athletic at the end of August, but is still waiting for his first Premier League minutes.
Why have Tottenham been cautious with Luca Williams-Barnett?
Williams-Barnett was heavily involved in Roberto De Zerbi's pre-season plans, as he received significant minutes against Sydney FC, Auckland and MK Dons.
Many fans expected that to transpire into occasional first-team opportunities during the league campaign, but that has yet to materialise so far.
Williams-Barnett is still waiting to make his Premier League debut for his boyhood club, but the team's struggles haven't helped his cause of late.
De Zerbi has approached his situation with caution so far, and it is understood to he is reluctant to throw him into a struggling team.
Calling on a youngster in that environment can often do more harm than good, with the side under plenty of scrutiny at the moment.
However, Spurs have every intention of tying Williams-Barnett down to a new deal, and are hoping to hand him some league minutes once their fortunes improve.
Roberto De Zerbi has 'done more harm than good'
Former Tottenham scout Bryan King told Football Insider last week that De Zerbi's team selections are "doing more harm than good" for some of the club's younger players at the moment.
The ex-recruitment man believes that the Italian has placed too much pressure on some of the less experienced members of Spurs' first-team squad.
King suggested that Williams-Barnett is likely to go out on loan once the January window opens to ensure that he can gain the necessary exposure to first-team football.
He is viewed as one of the leading talents in Tottenham's academy at the moment, but how they manage him will be crucial to his development.
