Tottenham: Darren Bent's Cristian Romero verdict shows exactly why Man United 'offer' must be accepted
Tottenham Hotspur appear set to face their first incoming offer of the summer for centre-back Cristian Romero.
The Argentine's future in North London has been called into question in recent months, after a campaign that has brought yet more controversial moments.
Romero has been unable to curb his disciplinary issues, and was at the centre of a huge story when, at one stage, he was planning to fly to Argentina instead of being present for Spurs' final game of the season.
Manchester United are now interested in the former Juventus man, and are understood to be readying an offer to try to prise him away.
The Red Devils are looking to strengthen at the heart of their defence, and already have Romero's international teammate Lisandro Martinez as one of their key men.
Tottenham have appeared increasingly willing to allow Romero to move on in recent weeks, and Darren Bent has just made it abundantly clear why that is the case.
Darren Bent rips into Cristian Romero as offer 'prepared'
Romero's attitude had him in the spotlight on several occasions this season, and Roberto De Zerbi is seemingly keen to move away from that next term.
The Italian made a big impact to help keep the team in the Premier League, and is now facing a huge rebuild if he is to get them back into contention.
He and the recruitment team already look set to be presented with the chance to cash in on Romero, with respected journalist Gaston Edul reporting via his X account that United are "preparing an offer" for the 28-year-old.
A few years ago, Tottenham may have had doubts about cashing in on their key defender, but after the drama of 2025-26, they will surely be keen to take the money.
Bent hit the nail on the head on talkSPORT on Monday night, as he pointed out that the Lilywhites "can't trust him" any more, after a season full of "rash decisions and mistakes."
The former Tottenham striker then went on to note that Romero is providing issues that his former club "just don't need right now."
He praised the start that De Zerbi has made at the helm, but it was clear that he was in no doubt as to where Romero's future should lie.
The defender has made some valuable contributions over the years, but Bent's verdict shows exactly why Spurs should accept any offer that comes their way from United.
Tottenham 'expect' Romero to walk out
Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last week that his former club already "expect" Romero to depart this summer.
The veteran has made it clear throughout the campaign that he would rather be somewhere else, and the club do not anticipate a change of heart at all.
Brown made it clear that Tottenham are planning for Romero to walk away from them at the earliest opportunity, which could now be to join United.
It would undoubtedly pain the North Londoners to see him walk away to a Premier League rival, but they will surely just be glad to see the back of him.
