Tottenham Hotspur can't start the 2026-27 campaign on the back foot, but that's what could happen as interest in Savinho rekindles.

Roberto De Zerbi did exactly what he was brought in to do - save Spurs from Premier League relegation. But the impossibly hard work is only just beginning at Hotspur Way.

The manager has already issued a damning warning ahead of the summer transfer window, revealing that only 10 to 12 players from the current squad are good enough to lead the Lilywhites into next season.

With those numbers in mind, it could take quite the squad overhaul to transform what is currently at De Zerbi's disposal, but Savinho should be nowhere near Tottenham's transfer plans right now.

Tottenham are shooting themselves in the foot with Savinho

Spurs came close to signing the Manchester City winger for £70million last summer, with the player keen on a move away, but Pep Guardiola wanted to keep him at the Etihad Stadium as a back-up option.

Now, it is understood that the Lilywhites are interested in the Brazilian once again, with the player now available for £60million, but his drop in value should say everything about a potential deal.

Despite attackers all around him producing the goods week in, week out, Savinho finished the season on five goals and three assists in 39 games, making just seven starts in the Premier League.

Football Insider understands that Savinho could force a move away from Man City, but it shouldn't be Spurs and De Zerbi that provide him with an escape, certainly not for that price.

Who could Roberto De Zerbi get rid of this summer?

If De Zerbi is right, and only as many as 12 players from the current squad are good enough, there could be several players who are walking through the exit doors this summer.

Football Insider understands that Cristian Romero is edging closer to an exit, while Guglielmo Vicario, Radu Dragusin, Richarlison and Randal Kolo Muani have failed to prove themselves.

The likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Mohammed Kudus, and Wilson Odobert have all yet to return from long-term injuries, and they will feel like brand-new signings ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Nothing is certain at Hotspur Way right now, not in the slightest. But what should be obvious is that splashing £60million on Savinho would be a brain-dead move. But would a deal be at all surprising?
