Tottenham making mistake by lining up Mikey Moore transfer - 'it's the wrong move'
Tottenham Hotspur are risking unsettling winger Mikey Moore by lining up another loan move for him this summer.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that Spurs are clogging the pathway for their best young players to break through.
This comes after the news that both Luka Vuskovic and Lucas Bergvall are keen to leave North London this summer, two starlets who the club hierarchy had hoped to build their future around.
Wyness believes it is a matter of time before Moore takes a similar stance regarding his future, and is adamant that another loan spell is the "wrong move" for him right now.
The 18-year-old excelled during his stint at Rangers last season, notching seven goals and four assists and becoming a key player for the Glasgow giants.
The Ibrox outfit have previously made it clear that they would like to keep Moore for another season, but Wyness is in no doubt that should be the last resort for Spurs.
Tottenham 'frightened' by youth after relegation scare
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Tottenham are "frightened" after their relegation scare and are desperately investing in their squad.
He believes that the Lilywhites are so keen to avoid a repeat of last season that they are missing the chance to integrate some of their best young players at first-team level.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the former boardroom man made it clear that the alarm bells may be ringing for Moore.
"That's exactly what I'm getting at, is it starts to create a pattern where young players see that there isn't the pathway through to the first team," Wyness said.
"I think he's got to come back to Spurs and they've got to create a pathway. This is the wrong move for Moore. I don't think they can carry on loaning out your best talent and hope to have them come back at the right time.
"I think he needs to see that he's shown enough at Rangers to deserve a chance, and so Spurs are going to make a decision about giving him minutes, but it's something that they're going to come across in a few areas right now.
"We'll see what happens with Spurs, but that's just one big concern that I understand them being frightened after last season and what happened and not wanting to make sure it happens again with a more experienced squad.
"But at the same time, you could be losing a lot of your young talent here, and so it's a fine balance, and it doesn't seem to me that they're really paying enough attention to that."
Tottenham starlet's exit 'not about money'
Wyness previously told Football Insider that Vuskovic's desire to leave Tottenham is "not about money" but rather the lack of pathway towards Premier League football.
The Croatian centre-back has had interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona in recent months, but is now keen to join Brighton as they are prepared to offer him a key role straight away.
Vuskovic is one of the most sought-after young talents in Europe at the moment, but Wyness is clear that the lack of opportunity at his parent club is driving him away.
He and Bergvall have set the precedent by making their concerns clear, and Spurs could lose a wealth of young talent if they do not address the issues.
