Tottenham Hotspur want to hand Pedro Porro a new contract if they are able to survive relegation from the Premier League this season.

Porro has been one of Spurs' most important players over the last few seasons, and his current contract runs until 2028.

Tottenham want to tie him down to a new deal this summer to ward off potential suitors, but first need to avoid a shock relegation to the Championship.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Man City are one of the clubs eyeing a move for his services.

Tottenham's transfer plans are up in the air right now as they battle the drop, but they will be resigned to losing Porro if they do succumb to relegation this season.

Tottenham want Pedro Porro to sign a new contract

Porro has continued to be a standout for Spurs this season despite their struggles, with one goal and five assists in 37 appearances so far.

He may leave the club this summer even if they stay up, but Tottenham's board would like the Spaniard to pen fresh terms and commit his future to the club.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “(Man City) have had a long-term interest in Pedro Porro. They know all about the Spanish international, having signed him from Girona in 2019.

“I’m sure a number of clubs, not just Manchester City, are looking at Porro and other Tottenham players to see who they could maybe steal away if the worst happens to Tottenham and they are relegated.

"Ideally Spurs, if they do sort themselves out and secure Premier League survival, they would probably want to tie down someone like Porro to a new contract.

"Their ongoing struggles are giving some of their rivals a bit of hope that they could be susceptible to offers for the top players, including Porro."

Aston Villa plotting summer move for James Maddison

Tottenham’s current predicament has seen several top players linked with moves away from the club in the summer.

Sources have told Football Insider that Aston Villa are interested in Maddison despite his injury woes this season.

He is one of Spurs' top earners, so his future looks uncertain heading into the next transfer window regardless of whether they survive or not.

Maddison has not featured this term since suffering an ACL injury last August, but registered 12 goals and 10 assists in 45 appearances last season to help the club to Europa League glory.
