Tottenham to 'accept' Richarlison offer of 'less than £1m'

Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to let striker Richarlison leave for a nominal fee during the January transfer window.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the 29-year-old will ultimately end up at Vasco da Gama.

The Brazilian side failed with a late attempt to sign the frontman during the summer window, and he has since been frozen out by Roberto De Zerbi.

Wyness believes that Richarlison's exit is now on the cards for less than £1million during the winter window, ahead of his contract expiring next summer.

The 54-cap Brazil international has been left out of the Lilywhites' Premier League squad, and was even absent from their recent Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool.

Richarlison ended last season as Spurs' leading goalscorer with 11 Premier League goals, but it is now clear that he has no future in North London.

Tottenham have no 'leverage' with Richarlison

Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Tottenham effectively have no "leverage" against Richarlison at this stage.

The club are rapidly running out of time to secure any sort of value for their out-of-favour star, with January their final chance to sanction a sale.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained why Spurs are likely to just accept the "benefit" of clearing the forward from their wage bill.

"My opinion is that he probably will go to Vasco da Gama fairly soon for a very low fee," he said.

"It'll probably even be in the hundreds of thousands, and I think they will accept that the saving on his wages will be the benefit for Spurs. It's just been a pretty unsavoury situation.

"He's only got less than a year left on his contract, so the club haven't got a lot of leverage. They'll make him wait until January, but I think they'll decide to get him off the wage bill and shake hands and say goodbye."

How do Tottenham feel about Richarlison's FIFA appeal?

Wyness previously told Football Insider earlier this week that Tottenham will be desperately hoping that FIFA don't get involved in Richarlison's contract situation.

The striker and his agent have recently appealed to the governing body, and are trying to argue that his deal should be mutually terminated.

However, Wyness outlined that elite-level clubs do not like to have FIFA encroach on their business under any circumstances, and would much rather resolve the situation themselves.

Richarlison has next to no value for the Lilywhites at this stage, but Wyness does not expect them to hold him ransom.
