Tottenham's big-money transfers 'structured' so more deals can follow: 'Watch this space'

Tottenham Hotspur are finally flexing the full extent of their commercial muscles with their eye-catching summer spending.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Lilywhites are finally "unlocking" the true power of their commercial revenue.

Tottenham have already spent in excess of £200million on new additions this summer, and recent reports have suggested that they have the capability to splash a further £250m on transfers.

Wyness made it clear that Spurs have "structured" their early deals in a manner that will enable them to continue spending big until the close of the window.

He also noted that the club "scared themselves" with their relegation battle last season, and are determined to avoid a repeat.

Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Jan Paul van Hecke have all arrived for big money so far this summer, and are unlikely to be the final headline additions in the coming weeks.

Tottenham showing exactly why they wanted Daniel Levy gone

Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the Lewis family are finally showing why they wanted to end Daniel Levy's involvement with the club.

He emphasised that the former executive chairman operated in a "canny" manner when it came to investment on the footballing side of the club, and wasn't keen to splash the cash.

However, speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, he made it clear that Spurs are now "unlocking" the "commercial advantage" that their stadium provides.

"This is really the reason the Lewis family parted ways with Daniel Levy: they felt they wanted to unlock this commercial power," Wyness said.

"Daniel was playing a lot in a more canny way, so to speak. But yes, I think it is them unlocking their power.

"Even though the deals have got headline numbers, if they're structured properly with amortization and payment plans, then Spurs do have that mileage to go further and rebuild the squad.

"They scared themselves last season; there's no doubt about it. And so they're trying to make sure that this could never happen again.

"They're putting the money where their mouth is, but there is still money to go. And so yes, it's Spurs unlocking the commercial advantage. So watch this space; they're not finished yet."

Tottenham told to offer 'golden contract' to finalise Eli Junior Kroupi deal

Spurs urged to offer 'golden contract' to Eli Junior Kroupi

Former Tottenham scout Bryan King told Football Insider earlier this week that Spurs will need to offer a "golden contract" to Eli Junior Kroupi to have any chance of signing him this summer.

Recent reports have suggested that the North Londoners are preparing an £85m bid for the Bournemouth starlet, but PSG are also strongly interested.

King is adamant that Tottenham have little chance of beating the reigning European champions to the 20-year-old's signature.

He has pushed for them to put a hugely lucrative deal on the table for the starlet, as he feels money may be the only way to tempt him to join.
