What Lewis Family's new NBA venture means for Tottenham - expert

The Lewis Family will continue to help pay the bills with brand-new events taking place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that Spurs may have the most utilised stadium in all of Europe.

Tottenham have one of the most impressive stadiums in the Premier League, and thanks to the new owners, one of the most talented squads.

All of that means nothing if Roberto De Zerbi can't get his players firing on the pitch, though, so that will be the sole focus in 2026-27.

The club continues to work behind the scenes on non-football-related events as well, Jay-Z one of the next artists to perform in North London.

And now, it is believed, as per The Athletic, that the Lewis Family are exploring a potential bid for the NBA Europe team in London.

Tottenham have 'one of the most utilised stadiums in Europe'

Spurs already host concerts and various sports, and speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson how the introduction of NBA could impact the club's finances.

"I think they're allowed 30-35 non-match day events at the stadium from the local council. So, the more they can fill of those, the better," he said.

"There's a limit to how much you can generate for the football club from renting out the stadium. It's not the same as having a match against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

"But it helps. It definitely pays the bills. It definitely generates incremental revenue. And it utilises that stadium on more days than, historically, has been the case.

"And it probably will end up being the most utilised football stadium, certainly in England and perhaps in Europe. So there's definitely a rationale for doing it from that perspective.

"But I wouldn't overplay it. It's not going to be the difference between a very successful financial year and one that isn't. It's all incremental as opposed to completely transformational."

What will really define Spurs' finances?

While the events at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will make a difference, it is down to the players to get Spurs firing again this season.

The 2025-26 campaign should have been a major wake-up call, and Borson has outlined that it's up to De Zerbi and his squad to make profit this term.

"The financial performance of Tottenham is going to be derived from what they do on the football pitch, and how much they spend to get there," he said.

"So wages and transfer fees, they're going to be the defining driver for the profitability or not of Tottenham Hotspur."
