Tottenham in hunt to sign forward worth £58m in 2015, agent talks held - report
Tottenham are in the hunt to sign Manchester United forward Anthony Martial after contract talks between the France international and his club stalled, according to a report.
French news outlet RMC Sport claims that Martial, 22, is wanted by Spurs and Inter Milan while it has been suggested that Real Madrid may become interested if Gareth Bale leaves for Old Trafford.
Martial’s contract at Man United is due to expire next year and it is understood that the striker’s agent has held talks with the Premier League giants over thrashing out a new deal.
The report says that United were due to send the former Monaco star an extension offer, but he is yet to receive a new deal in the wake of Alexis Sanchez’s arrival.
RMC Sport claims that Martial is now considering his future at Old Trafford.
The France international signed for United from Monaco in a deal worth up to £58million in 2015.
He has made 37 appearances in all competitions this season and scored 11 goals.
Football Insider verdict
Martial would be a crazily good signing for Tottenham. The French forward could be available for a much lower fee than what Man United paid for him nearly three years ago as his contract is nearing expiration. Tottenham definitely need a new centre-forward in the summer. Martial has played a lot on the wings for United over the last few years but the 22-year-old is more natural as a striker. He could be the perfect back-up option to Harry Kane and would offer something very different in attack. If Mauricio Pochettino can sell of Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen then sign Martial, it would be a brilliant summer transfer window.
