Tottenham idol hails 'genius' transfer plan after journalist's Richarlison update

Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham to push forward in their pursuit of Everton forward Richarlison.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane favourite said the move would be “a stroke of genius” given the 25-year-old’s versatility.

According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein (11 June), Spurs are interested in signing Richarlison this summer.

The Toffees are said to want more than £51million for the Brazil international.

Richarlison has two years remaining on his contract at Goodison Park.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if he would welcome Richarlison’s arrival at Spurs, Robinson said: “I like him a lot.

“I think he’s a top player. His attitude was questioned at times during the season but he stepped up when it mattered for Everton. He scored big goals in big moments.

“If Spurs could pull off that deal it would be a good one. He can play wide or through the middle as an out and out number nine. He can do both extremely well. It would be a stroke of genius if Spurs can get that deal done.

“Yes, they would have to pay upwards of £50million for him but I think he’s worth it.

“I suspect Everton will do everything they can to keep him. They need the money though. It could give Frank [Lampard] the room he needs to bring in more signings.

“I suspect it is a deal that could happen at the right price. It would be great if Spurs could get him.”
