Tottenham wing-back Ryan Sessegnon will have to settle for a bit-part role in the 2022-23 campaign, according to Paul Robinson.

The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is adamant that Ivan Perisic, 33, will start in the "big games" next season.

Tottenham signed Perisic on a free transfer from Inter Milan this summer.

The Croatia international is expected to play as a left wing-back for Antonio Conte's side.

Sessegnon was the preferred choice at left wing-back last season.

As shown on his personal Instagram (24 June), the ex-Fulham player has been doing individual training sessions ahead of pre-season.

When asked by Football Insider's Dylan Childs if Sessegnon could rival Perisic for a starting spot, Robinson said: "Perisic has been brought in for a reason.

"He will play. He will be the first choice left wing-back. There is no reason not to think that because he is a world-class player.

"It's great to see Sessegnon putting in the hours before pre-season. He is going to play this year. Spurs have a lot of games to play.

"Perisic, at his age, cannot play every game. Sessegnon has a fantastic role model there. He will learn from him on a daily basis.

"For me, Perisic plays most weeks and certainly in the big games.

"Sessegnon proved last year that he can fill in if needed though. If Perisic gets injured, Sessegnon will play."
